Ebook About
On the evening that Donald Trump was elected the President of the United States in 2016, Canada’s immigration website crashed because so many Americans researched emigrating to Canada. Very few followed through on that initial impulse. I Actually Did It! is the honest, humorous and insightful story of Stephen Shainbart Ph.D., a New Yorker and clinical psychologist. He spent years after the 2016 election researching and undertaking the surprisingly difficult and complex process of emigrating to Canada. In November 2019, three years after his journey beganon that fateful night, he finally became Canadian. Faced with the terrible prospect of Trump winning another term, Stephen shares his reasons for moving to Canada and how you could do it too. Drawing from personal experiences he explains his concerns about Trump and his fears for America. Even if you aren’t planning on emigrating to Canada, Stephen’s funny stories, his guide on air travel and his view of the cultural differences between USA and Canada can offer fun yet perceptive observations for our troubled times.

Book I Actually Did It!: Becoming Canadian because of Trump Review :

Honestly, I have really thought about moving to Canada since Nov 2016. I actually did look for jobs and try to figure out the process over the last few years. Even with my deep fears (which increased over time). it seemed like an impossible mountain to summit. So I have to give credit to this guy for doing it and doing in a way that was less bitter and more optimistic. The book explains how hard it was, while also going off on funny tangents about Canada and New York. It was also nice to have a personal insight into why, how, what... As a New Yorker myself, I appreciate the perspective and humor about both countries. Jesus, let's hope this doesn't become the go-to survival guide post November 2020. If so, this is a good one to have in your back pocket.
I found this book through a Facebook Group and decided to give it a try. I am not disappointed. Dr. Shainbart provides unique insights on his experiences in transitioning from New York to Toronto, while also capturing that all important question that many may have: why? Why would an American, who has a job, a profession, a family in the states, plenty of opportunities within the US, want to make the difficult journey to become a permanent resident in Canada? He lays out solid, psychologically-based logic as to what went into his decisions at the same time providing practical information on the difficulties of the bureaucratic process in becoming a Permanent Resident. He also outlines how so many Americans feel about our own country right now, and how helpless we seem to be with the turmoil on our streets, in our schools, and in our own government. I recommend this to anyone who is thinking about making this big move. Also, it's a quick read and it's entertaining - because if there's anything we Americans like, it's got to be quick and entertaining.
